Elysian, Kilkenny, Morristown, and Waterville have scheduled Memorial Day Ceremonies for Monday, May 29.
The Elysian Ceremony will start with stops at Greenland Cemetery (7 a.m.), German Lake Cemetery (7:20 a.m.), St. Peter (Bell) Cemetery (7:55 a.m.). Cannonville Cemetery (8:20 a.m.), and the Waterville Veterans Memorial (8:45 a.m.). Due to road construction, the Memorial Day Program in Elysian will be held at Sunset Park starting at 9:30 a.m.

Terry Warner, age 72, passed away May 4, 2023.
Terry was born in Faribault on December 26, 1950, to parents Gordon and Agnes (Pribyl) Warner. He grew up in Elysian, MN, and graduated from Waterville High School in 1969.
Terry served with the Army National Guard in Faribault for 6 years following graduation. After his service he worked as a welder at the Owatonna Tool Company and the King Company of Owatonna.
Terry liked to spend his spare time riding motorcycle or playing pool with his good friend Tom or just working on fixing up things around his house.
Lois Ann Stangler, 77, passed away May 5, 2023 after many years of chronic illness. She is now free from her failing body and in the glorious and loving presence of God.
Allan Daggett Wilcox, age 89, of Houston, Texas, passed away on May 6, 2023.
Allan was born May 13, 1933 to Irene and N.D. (Bud) Wilcox. He grew up in Elysian, Minnesota, and graduated from high school in nearby Waterville.
In 1955, while living in Minneapolis, he met Mary Ann Novotny, his wife of 63 years. They married July 2, 1955 in Montgomery, Minnesota, then moved shortly after to San Francisco, California, where Allan served in the U.S. Navy.
Fran Poehler, age 85, of Lakeville, MN, formerly of Shakopee, MN and Sun City, AZ, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 surrounded by his loving family at The Fountains at Hosanna in Lakeville.
Carol Ella Warweg, 85 of Titusville Florida, died Monday, November 21, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family. Born in Elysian, Minnesota, Carol moved to Titusville in 1986 from Waseca, Minnesota.
Troy William Warweg, Carol’s son, 62 of Ocklawaha, Florida, died Tuesday, February 7, 2023 surrounded by family and friends. Born in Mankato, Minnesota and raised in Waseca. Troy is a 1979 graduate of Waseca High School and a member of the American Legion Post 228 and The Moose Lodge.
Matthew John Matson, age 52, of Waterville, died on April 26, 2023, at Mayo Clinic’s St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Anna L. E. (Preuss) Wegner, age 97, of Morristown, died on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Mayo Health System, Mankato.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, North Morristown, with the Rev. Juan Palm, officiating. Interment will be at Concordia Cemetery, North Morristown.
Visitation will be at the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, from 4 to 7 p.m. and also at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service.

Ruth Schwichtenberg Nyquist, 104 years of age, left this earthly life on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in North Mankato in the presence of her family.
On April 13, 2023, our mom, friend, mentor, and all around wise acre, consulted with God, and probably a handful of saints she was on a first name basis with, and together made the decision to depart in peace.
Born on May 17, 1921 to Jack and Tressa (Hamele) O’Leary, she attended country school and eventually Waterville Public School where she declared to her teacher that she pretty much learned everything already. She graduated as salutatorian in 1939 and went on to graduate from Mankato Business College.
The search for a new Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Superintendent will begin after Ryan Jensen submitted his resignation, effective the end of June. Jensen was hired in 2022 to a three-year contract. He informed the WEM Board of Education of his decision last week.
Jensen, who lives in Princeton, has spent the past six years away from his family during the weeks while holding the position of Principal at Walker-Hackensack-Akeley for a number of years and the position of Superintendent this school year.
Approximately one month shy of her 102nd birthday, long-time Lake Region Life and Elysian Enterprise newspaper icon Bernadine Hildebrant passed away Thursday, April 13.
For more than 50 years Hildebrant worked for the local newspapers and was affectionately known as “Gramma Bernie” by many of those she wrote about or photographed during her career.

Yesterday, Thursday, March 13, the Minnesota Department of Transportation has closed Highway 93 from Henderson to Highway 169 due to flooding.
Traffic is detoured to Highway 19 until the water recedes.
The roadway will reopen when water has receded, and crews are able to make any necessary repairs.
When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
