Gerald “Jerry” Carl Mogenson, age 82 of Waterville, died on Friday, October 12, 2018 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

Rex Jackson Bull, age 66 of Kilkenny died on Monday, October 15, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

The WEM volleyball team is in the middle of a record-setting season. They are currently 25-2 after a nonconference win over Waseca Tuesday, Oct. 9. The Bucs are ranked No. 2 behind Minneota in the Class A State Coaches Poll. WEM will travel to Hayfield Thursday, Oct. 11, host NRHEG Monday, Oct. 15, and travel to USC Tuesday, Oct. 16 to end their regular season. With wins in these three matches, the Bucs will end Faribault BA's reign on top of the Gopher Conference. It has been a 19 year conference championship run for the  Cardinals, who have losses to WEM and Medford this season.

The WEM football team, winners of five straight games, has entered the Class AA Associated Press State Football Rankings. The Bucs are ranked No. 10 in the poll, which was released Thursday, Oct. 11.The top six teams: Caledonia, Minneapolis North, Barnesville, Redwood Walley, St. Charles, and Royalton, are all 6-0. Redwood Valley knocked off the Bucs, 22-18, in the season opener. WEM will face 12th rated Maple River, in a battle of two 5-1 teams Friday, Oct. 12. The Bucs rushed for more than 300 yards in a 21-7 win over Le Sueur-Henderson Oct. 5. For more on the LSH game check out the Oct.

Duane Hill, age 85, of Ivanhoe and formerly of Marshall, MN, died on Friday, August 3, 2018, at Divine Providence Health Center in Ivanhoe, MN. Funeral services were August 9, 2018 at First Lutheran Church in Marshall, MN. Duane Collins Hill was born April 16, 1933, to Shirley Saul and Helen Fae (Hostitler) Hill in Tracy, MN. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his youth in the Methodist faith. Duane attended grade school in Elysian, graduating with the Class of 1951. He furthered his education at Mankato State University before joining the United States Army.

The 2018 Homecoming Coronation was held Monday, Oct. 8 in Waterville. Dawson Bauer and Morgan Nusbaum were named Homecoming King and Queen that evening. The rest of the week there were a handful of events for the students. Friday, Oct. 12 is the annual parade (1:45 p.m.), pepfest (2;15 p.m.), Music Arts Booster Tailgate event (5 p.m.), WEM football game vs. Maple River (7 p.m.), and the Homecoming dance (9:30 p.m.). Morgan Nusbaum, daughter of Dave and Tammy Nusbaum, and Dawson Bauer, son of Darren and Lori Bauer, were crowned the 2018 Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Queen and King during the annual  Homecoming Coronation held in Waterville Monday, Oct.

Due to the significant amount of property and agricultural damage after the Sept. 20 storm, the Le Sueur County Board has entered into a resolution which will help county residents.
The commissioners declared Le Sueur County in a State of Emergency Sept. 24 for the high wind storm event of Sept. 20.
During the Oct. 2 meeting, the county board signed a resolution which will waive zoning permit fees and grant administrative variances.
The resolution deals with affected properties as documented in the damage assessment from the storm damage.

Ethel Ione (Miller) Reistad, age 101 of Morristown was called to be with her Savior on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the New Richland Care Center.

Lois J. (Hoffman) Kletschka, 73, Waterville, died Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at the Janesville Nursing Home in Minnesota under hospice care after a long illness.  
 
Lois was born September 12, 1945, to the late Arthur and Margret Hoffman in Wausau, WI.  On June 20, 1998 she married Eugene H. Kletschka at Bray Park in Madison Lake, MN. Lois and Gene made lots of great memories on their many camping and casino adventures. They especially loved spending time with family and friends.
 

Bruce J. Cummins, age 67 of Le Sueur, died Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis.  Memorial service is11a.m. on Wednesday, October 3, at St. Anne’s Church, Le Sueur.  Visitation is Tuesday, October 2 at Kolden Funeral Home, Le Sueur from 4-7 p.m., and burial is in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Le Sueur.  

The 2018 WEM Homecoming Candidates were announced Wednesday, Sept. 26. Five senior girls and five senior boys have been chosen by their classmates as Homecoming Royalty. The Queen and King will be voted on by the high school students next week. The winners will be announced during the WEM Homecoming Coronation Monday, October 8 at 7:30 p.m. Queen candidates are Addie Atherton, Sarah Best, Claire Buscho, Morgan Nusbaum, and Kayleen Stangler. King candidates are Collin Adank, Dawson Bauer, Gabe Malecha, Devin Morris, and Jayson Schneider.

The WEM football team won its 3rd straight game Friday, Sept. 21, shutting out Norwood-Young America 27-0. Wyatt Storch scored a rushing touchdown and returned an interception for a score to lead the Buccaneers. WEM is 3-1 overall and 3-0 in the Blue Sub-District, tied for the top spot with NRHEG and Maple River. WEM will play at NRHEG Friday, Sept. 28. This will be the Panther's Homecoming game. Lowell J. Nutter, age 80 of Elysian died on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at his home.

The WEM volleyball team placed 3rd in the Class A Minnesopta Showcase Volleyball Tourney which was played Friday, Sept. 21 and Saturday, Sept. 22 at Burnsville. The Bucs defeated MACCRAY, Lewiston-Altura, and Windom Area in pool play. In the Gold Championship bracket, WEM was defeated by Mayer Lutheran, which was their first loss of the season. In the third place match, the Bucs edged Wabasso. Mayer Lutheran is the two-time defending Class A State Champions and are in the same section as WEM (16-1 overall record). The Bucs will host Blooming Prairie Thursday, Sept.

Angie Dahle, age 86, of Waterville formerly of Waseca, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, September 22, 2018 at Traditions in Waterville.

Mass of Christian Burial was at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Church of the Sacred Heart in Waseca with Fr. Gregory Leif as Celebrant. Interment followed in Calvary Cemetery.
