Bucs tied for second in Gopher Conference

The WEM girls basketball team split a pair of Gopher Conference games last week.
They began their week with a 68-61 loss to league-leading NRHEG Tuesday, Jan. 9 in Waterville. They ended the week with a 70-38 rout of Randolph.
With the split, WEM remains tied for second place in the West Division of the c o n f e r e n c e with a 5-1 record, one half game behind NRHEG and tied with Maple River, a team they have already defeated.
In the loss to the Panthers, NRHEG opened up a 35-19 halftime lead. That lead grew to 51- 27 with 11:24 to play. From this point on, the Bucs outscored the Panthers 34-17.
Four points from Alayna Atherton and a basket by Claire Bohlen cut the lead to 64-58 with 34 seconds to play. That was as close as the Bucs would get despite their fantastic second half effort.
Bohlen finished with 16 points, 14 of which came in the second half. She also had 10 rebounds and two assists.
