The “Fall Colors Cruise” rolls out of Henderson the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 3. Approximately 200 classic vehicles were participating in the 70 mile cruise that traveled through St. Thomas, Le Center, around Le Sueur County lakes to the Ottawa Road into Le Sueur and back to Henderson. The Henderson Classic Car Roll-In Committee hosted the cruise. Donations were also taken for the local food shelf that collected an estimated couple hundred pounds of food. The late Virginia Lucier Hoyt was given a heartfelt and rousing sendoff by 30 women who learned cheers from her, and eventually became friends. The brief ceremony came at the end of the funeral for Hoyt, or Miss Lucier as she was known for many years, on Thursday, Sept. 24, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in New Prague.
Lonsdale area residents came out the evening of Friday, Sept. 25, to support its local police department and the Rice County Sheriff’s Office. The Lonsdale Knights of Columbus hosted the event held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the staff of the Lonsdale Police Department honored for their work in the community. The....

The Office of the Le Sueur County Election Administrator announced on Friday that absentee ballots are now available to the public for the General Election (November 3, 2020).
Voters are strongly encouraged to apply online for an absentee ballot.
Online absentee ballot applications are currently available on the Minnesota Secretary of State website or Le Sueur County website.
Area residents were able to enjoy a community gathering with food and entertainment, although in a different way. Nozinky took the place of Dozinky during this year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Food trucks and music were offered on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 16 and 17, in Memorial Park. A virtual Talent Show and Kolacky Eating Contest were held on Saturday, Sept. 19. On Sunday, Sept. 20, the Chamber held the judging for the Yard Decorating Contest with the theme Dozinky Through the Ages.
A tank from Chart Industries in New Prague slowly takes the corner at the intersection of Main Street and 10th Avenue NE (formerly Scott County Road 37) around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23. More than 50 people came out to participate in New Prague’s ALS Walk on Saturday, Sept. 19. The one-and-a-half-mile trek was part of the Virtual ALS Walk. Captains of the New Prague walk were sisters Sammi Schultz and Stephie Killu, daughters of Patty Solheid and the late Whitey Solheid. There was very noticeable activity just northeast of New Prague at the KCHK radio station along Highway 13 on Friday, Sept. 11. The celebration of the station’s 400th “Live Musicians Friday” or “L-M-F” show took place throughout the morning.
The Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council announced last week the State Arts and Cultural Heritage grants of $83,000 were awarded to eight arts organizations in the region with funds from the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment.
The grants are for arts activities in all artistic disciplines. A variety of activities including virtual events and in-person instrumental music concerts, theater performances, art classes and exhibitions are being funded.
New Prague area residents gather at Prchal’s Originals the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 16, during Nozinky in Memorial Park. The gathering of food trucks and entertainment held its first night with the celebration continuing tonight (Thursday, Sept. 17) with food trucks in Memorial Park open from 4-9 p.m. and music from Troy Flemming and Timothy Price. New Prague Area Schools began its hybrid learning classes for the school year of 2020-21 on Thursday, Sept. 3, with half of their 4,103 students showing up as part of the program. The other half of the kindergarten through 12th grade students came to classes on Friday, Sept. 4. On both days the students who weren’t in school were participating in distance learning. NPAS’ program is due to changes brought from the COVID-19 pandemic.
A public hearing was held Tuesday, Sept. 1 at the Le Sueur County Board Room to make a decision regarding the auditor/treasurer position.
The board notified the public of their intent to make this position an appointed position last month.
After publishing their intent in the legal county newspaper, a public hearing needed to be held.
There were neither written comments nor public comment during the meeting.
The board approved the resolution which will make the county auditor/ treasurer position an appointed position. This will take effect Oct. 2, 2020.
Since moving to a new location earlier this year, the farmers market in Lonsdale has seen an increase in business.
“We’ve gotten a lot more traffic compared to last year,” said Cakes by Brenda owner Brenda Hergenroder.
Hergenroder, who is in her first year as organizer of the farmers market, said that last year the market was held in the Lonsdale American Legion parking lot.
When the former organizer and the American Legion decided not to continue the market this year, Hergenroder stepped in to see that Lonsdale continued to have a market.
