    The Tri-City United Schools school board voted to close the primary building in Le Center at Monday’s regular board meeting, due to a failed boiler and no full need of the space. The building is located about a half block west of the TCU Le Center PreK-8 School’s main building at 160 North Mill Avenue. 

    The community is invited to watch an early-access viewing of “The Chosen” season six on Wednesday, Oct. 7 from 10-11:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery. Only churches and parishes are eligible to participate in this early viewing. 
    Streaming of this first episode of season six begins Nov. 15 on Prime Video, but St. John Lutheran Church is inviting the community to watch this early viewing at the church. 

    Social media posting on Facebook has been all abuzz the last couple weeks about the roundabout in Lonsdale at Highway 19 and Rice County 2, which was completed less than two months ago. 
    The subject of the chatter is a large dip on the northeast corner of the roundabout that developed that is about four-to-six inches deep, about four-to-six inches from side-to-side and extends the width of the lane.

    Before he could even remember and being only about nine months old, Silas Vlasak of Le Center started having drop seizures. Drop seizures, unlike atonic seizures, are when a person looses muscle tone and becomes limp, causing them to fall in place.
    The seizures Vlasak was having were a result of having epilepsy.

    Last Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 22, a regular customer of Lonsdale’s Dollar General store crashed into the entryway of the building.
    Lonsdale Police Chief Jason Schmitz said that the call came in at 1:57 p.m. for the incident, with Lonsdale Fire Department and Northfield Ambulance also responding.
    “The cause of the crash was the driver failed to stop. We suspect the driver accidentally accelerated the vehicle instead of stepping on the brake pedal,” said Chief Schmitz. “Were just thankful no one else was hurt knowing how busy Dollar General is.”

    Le Center’s Parker O’Malley and Kaitlyn Hartwig were crowned Tri-City United High School’s 2026 Homecoming king and queen Monday afternoon, Sept. 28 in the school’s performing arts center.

    Montgomery City Council approved its preliminary levy for 2027 at Monday’s regular meeting, with the absence of council member Daniel Siebsen and the late Mick McGuire’s open seat. The proposed levy, which had to be presented by Sept. 30 by state law, amounts to $3,710,409, which is a 5.22% increase over the adopted 2026 levy of $3,526,356. These preliminary numbers are set as in they cannot increase but could decrease before a final levy is adopted in December.

    The Tri-City United High School’s fishing team had a good season, finishing in the top five in the conference and sending two to the 2026 Minnesota Junior B.A.S.S. High School State Championship Tournament Sept. 12-13 on Leech Lake at Leech Lake, Minn.
    TCU duo Ryan Barta and Michael Gregor, along with their adult boat captain Timm Moravec, headed up north to finish placing 19th out of 80 teams at the state tournament. Their total bag weight was 19.55 pounds, with the first day’s bag weighing 10.84 pounds and the second day’s bag weighing 8.71 pounds.

    Montgomery Chamber of Commerce hosted a free event for local small businesses at Inspire Services on Wednesday, Sept. 16 to help them better understand how artificial intelligence (AI) has changed the ways in which their business is being discovered or not discovered in the online world by customers.
    Hannah Bretz, acting director at the South Central Minnesota Small Business Development Center (MSBC), led the session. Previously to being the director, Bretz was a consultant at the center for 11 years.

    Nineteen of the 60 graduates of the Montgomery High School Class of 1961 gathered at the American Bar & Grill in Montgomery for a 65th reunion luncheon. Class member Evelyn (Prchal) Duban says it’s something they do every year.
    The 1961 class was the 58th annual commencement for the school, which was held in what is now the elementary and middle school auditorium on Friday, May 26 at 8 p.m. 

    Montgomery’s Eva Tikalsky was crowned 2026-2027 Miss Czech-Slovak Minnesota Queen during the pageant Saturday evening at the Park Ballroom in New Prague.
    The daughter of Naima du Chatellier and Christopher Tikalsky, Eva Tikalsky was joined on stage by first princess Wren Zwaschka of Mankato and second princess Evelyn Winget of Nerstrand. The junior ambassadors chosen are Annika Budin of Montgomery, Lillian Skluzacek of Nerstrand, Cailyn Meadows of Montgomery, Abigail Mader of Kilkenny and Clara Winget of Nerstrand.

    The Titans will “(Re)Discover” the ’90s for homecoming next week. Rebecca Wiseman, homecoming advisor and high school teacher, put together a fun set of days for students to celebrate, which were announced Monday, Sept. 21 to students during the unveiling in the high school performing arts center during advisory time.

    Area 4-H clubs sent many participants to compete at this year’s Minnesota State Fair. Le Sueur County 4-H had 39 livestock participants in this year’s fair by itself. 
    Overall, there were 4-H participants from all 87 counties with over 2,778 animals and 1,900 general exhibits on display. Le Sueur County4-H programs itself had 29 general exhibit participants with 31 projects at The Great Minnesota Get Together.
