Richard Dale Lukes, age 72, of Champlin, MN, passed away June 1, 2026.
Richard was born August 4, 1953, to Leonard and Elsie (Holey) Lukes. He graduated from New Prague high school in 1971. He enlisted in the Army Reserve June 1971. After basic training he took a job at Peterson Seed in Shakopee until June 1973 when he enlisted in the Army. In the army he arose to the rank of SP4/E4, sharp shooter and head mechanic. When he got out of the service he went to Dunwoody College to be a mechanic. When he got his degree, he worked for Northern Propane. Then took a job as a parts specialist for Weller Truck Parts.
Richard always liked driving and seeing the country side. So, when the opportunity rose, he took a job delivering truck parts in the 5-state area until he retired in 2019. After retiring, Richard bought an enclosed trailer and made a camper out of it. In fall he would hook up his camper to his Jeep and go to Arizona for the winter from 2019 to 2025. In August 2025 he was diagnosed with cancer. Richard lost his battle with cancer June 1, 2026.
Richard is survived by his siblings Bob (Brenda) Lukes, Ron (Linda) Lukes, nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great-nephews and great-great- nieces.
Richard is proceeded in death by his parents and one nephew.
Richard’s funeral will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on September 8, 2026, at 2 p.m.
