Michael G. Simon, age 77, Lonsdale, passed away September 26, 2026 at Praha Village in New Prague. Mike was born July 18,1949 in Northfield, MN to Ray & Ann (Skluzacek) Simon. He grew up on the family farm outside of Lonsdale, attending Catholic school in Lonsdale and high school in New Prague, graduating in 1967.
Mike met Sandie Pasek at the egg plant in Lonsdale, one of his stops while driving truck, shortly after high school graduation. They were married May 29,1970 at Immaculate Conception Church in Lonsdale. They built their first house in Lonsdale in 1972 followed by building the house they raised their family in and lived in for nearly 50 years in 1974. In 2022, they built in Lonsdale again and sold their house and property to their youngest son, Travis, and his wife.
Mike drove truck until joining his older brothers, Ray and Tom, working for Cedar Concrete in Minneapolis. The 3 of them then ventured out on their own, forming Simon Brothers Cement Company in 1969, based out of Lonsdale, where Mike worked until 2004. He then went to work for each of his sons. Travis first, in excavation and then Brett, at Simon Brick and Stone Company until retiring in 2014. Mike enjoyed hunting in his younger years, spending many years taking annual deer hunting trips with the same group of guys to Warroad, MN and later, purchasing property by Aitkin, MN with brothers Tom and Tony and friend LeRoy Krenik, fondly known as “the shack”. In his 40’s, he took up fishing and enjoyed many years of both summer and winter fishing.
Mike also enjoyed projects on their 40 acres, planting trees, building bird houses & duck boxes, maintaining a large lawn and big gardens and developing 3 ponds, adding aeration to the largest one, building a dock and stocking it with fish. He loved to see his dad come out to fish off the dock. Mike made another of the ponds into a skating rink, adding lights to it so the boys and their buddies could play hockey.
When grandkids came along, you could find him driving his 4-wheeler with the wooden boxes he built for it filled with grandkids and a couple more on his lap as he took them for rides around their property.
Mike is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sandie; children; Kari Simon, Madison Lake, Brett (Tammy) Simon, Le Center, & Travis (Allie) Simon, Lonsdale; grandchildren: Kiana (Andy) Quast, Kenady Benning & Kahlan Benning, Carlie Simon (fiancée Sam Overgaard), Mason Simon, Lindsey Simon & Addie Simon, Lainey (Brody) Boran, CJ Simon, Breckyn (Dylan Flynn) Simon, Ashlyn Simon & Kamry Simon; great-grandchildren: Lennox, Hayes & Ames Ress, Indie Flynn & another 3 arriving in the next few months. Siblings; Ray (Marlene) Simon, Dick (Roxanne) Simon, Mary Rah, Tony (Mary) Simon, Joe (Sandy) Simon, sisters-in-law Janet Simon & Marcia Simon, brother-in-law Scott (Heidi) Pasek & sister-in-law Kris Pasek as well as many nephews, nieces and a large extended family. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Ray & Ann Simon, a brother in infancy and brothers Steve Simon & Tom Simon as well as his in-laws, Frank & Helen Pasek and Sandie’s siblings Ronnie & Gary Pasek and Pat (Pasek) Kalina.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, at White Funeral Home in Lonsdale, with a Rosary service at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 5, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Veseli, with Father John Lapensky presiding. A brief, private interment for immediate family and Mike’s siblings will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lonsdale. All other guests are invited to proceed directly to the Lonsdale American Legion for fellowship, with lunch served upon the family’s arrival following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, Mike requested memorial contributions to Holy Cross Catholic School in Webster. We would like to thank Praha Village in New Prague, St. Croix Hospice and Nadine Stankey for the exceptional care provided for Dad since July.
