Angela "Angie" Mary (Sevcik) Topka, 89

Angela "Angie" Mary (Sevcik) Topka  passed away at her home in Minneapolis on October 11, 2026, just short of her 90th birthday.

Angie was born on November 5, 1936, in Londsdale, Minnesota to her beloved parents George Sevcik and Mayme (Tupy) Sevcik. She was raised on a farm with no running water or electricity, which gave her grit, a humble nature and a lifelong love of animals.

Her family moved to New Prague, Minnesota, where Angie attended high school.  It was during those years she met the group of women that would be bonded in friendship for the rest of their lives. Following high school, Angie sought an adventurous career with Capital Airlines (now United).  During those years, she traveled all over the U.S. She lived in Detroit, Washington DC and New York before she settled back in New Prague, married and had four children.  The family moved to St. Paul, Minnesota in 1969.  Angie raised her children, determined to keep them in Catholic schools and in the home that they loved. She had a long career in the medical field at Metropolitan Medical Center (now HCMC).  She moved to Minneapolis and retired at age 70 and proceeded to enjoy her free time reading mystery novels, walking by the lake and spending time with her grandchildren.

A devout and open-minded Catholic, Angie was a parishioner at St. Joan of Arc church in Minneapolis for 40 years. She volunteered at St. Joan’s as well as Risen Christ Elementary where she helped teach children to read.

Angie will be remembered for her down-home, often self-deprecating sense of humor, beautiful smile, hardy laugh, love of a good time, and a soft spot for stray animals.  It wouldn’t have been Christmas without decorating her famous sugar cookies, and it wouldn’t have been spring without the sound of the baseball announcer calling the play-by-play on her portable radio. As a Twins fan, Angie followed baseball with unbeatable knowledge and passion for the game.  Most of all, Angie will be remembered for value of family, a love that extended beyond immediate family to her beloved nieces and nephews.

Angie was proceeded in death by her father and mother George and Mayme, sisters Gene and Betty, and son-in-law Juan Basombrio.

She is survived by her son Mathew Topka, and daughters Laura Bogle (Topka), Anne Buchwald (Topka) and Joan Basombrio (Topka), grandchildren Jackson and Luke Bogle, Leo Buchwald, Lauren and John Basombro and great-grandchildren Julian and Angelica Bogle as well as her cat Jingles and loyal dog Nolan.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 13 at St. Joan of Arc Church, 4537 3rd Avenue South, Minneapolis at 9:30 a.m.  Mass will be held at 10:30 and lunch will follow.

In Lieu of flowers, please give to an animal shelter of your choice.
