Starting with February’s bill, Montgomery residents can expect to see a slight increase in the sewer portion of their bill.

At its final meeting of the year, the city council amended its utility fee schedule that includes water and sewer rates. According to City Administrator Brian Heck, the increase came before the council after an annual review by the Public Utility Commission (PUC).

After January’s usage, residents (including commercial properties) will see a $1.25 increase in their base rate to $16 a month. This is the rate applied regardless of usage. Residents will also see a usage rate increase of .25 cents per 1,000 gallons used. That new rate will be $8.75.

There will also be an increase from $24 to $40 for water disconnect/reconnect fees, and an increase from $50 to $80 for water disconnect/reconnect fees for residents who are snowbirds. The PUC also recommended the city to continue charging snowbirds the monthly base rates for water/sewer and storm water even though the water is disconnected.

Heck noted that the snowbird increase wouldn’t take effect until April to allow those residents to make earlier adjustments, if they desire.
