Student arrested after social media threat

A Tri-City United High School student was arrested on Wednesday morning after posting a social media threat that included a photo of a weapon.

In an email from the school district to parents, Superintendent Teri Preisler said there had been a possible threat made by a TCU High School student at the start of the school day. High school administration was notified of a social media post made by a TCU High School student that included a photo of a weapon with a statement referencing school.

“Tri-City United was not specifically referenced in this post, nor were there any other details of threats or actions,” Preisler wrote. “We treated this social media post as a possible threat and notified public safety. Local law enforcement responded immediately and within a short amount of time, the student was taken into custody.”

Preisler stated that there were no weapons or items of concern located or found on school grounds.

“The situation was contained and handled in a swift manner,” she said.

The superintendent also stated that local law enforcement said due to the quick response by all involved, there are no concerns regarding student and staff safety from this situation.

“We are thankful for the communication made to our administration and thankful to Montgomery Police Chief Sager and law enforcement for the immediate and safe response,” Preisler said. “To everyone in our Tri-City United community, if you see or hear anything that concerns you, please report it to our school staff or to law enforcement. These are difficult times and it will take all of us working together and communicating to do all we can for the safety of our students and everyone in our schools.”
