School construction nearing an end

Operations Director Craig Most gave a construction update to members of the New Prague Area School Board during its workshop meeting Monday, Sept. 11.

The work is winding down in the Central Educatiom Campus and Middle School buildings. The parking lot was put in place on the south side of the CEC and there is some tiling work inside that is still being done. The new floor is in place in the gym and it should be ready by the end of September.

The middle school is "97 percent complete," Most said. The floor in the locker bank area is being polished as is the terrazzo floor in the commons. The only area where the floor is not done is in the bus entry area, and Most said it looks like that could be done during the MEA break, rather than Christmas, as had been thought.

There are metal panels being installed on the exterior of the building and punch list items are being taken care of.

"The only thing that won’t be done before the Open House (on October 8) will be the bus entry," he said.

Work on the Falcon Ridge Elementary and Compass Learning Center building (formerly the ECFE building) is largely completed, except for a few punch list items. The tennis courts were completed over the weekend, except for landscaping. Most noted that the courts were painted in the wrong colors.

"We will use them for the fall, and either negotiate a price break or have them go back and repoint the courts after the season is over," he said. He added that work on the bus garage continues and is on target to be completed by late October.

Also at Monday’s meeting, high school teacher Greg Tikalsky went over a proposed European trip, to Paris and Italy, that he would like to schedule for the summer of 2019. The trip would be for this year’s freshmen who will have....
