Former school cook charged with having relationship with middle school student

A 20-year-old former employee of TCU Montgomery Middle School faces felony charges after allegedly having a romantic relationship with a 13-year-old student at the school.

Clayton Maverick Sauter, 20, of Cologne, was charged by warrant Wednesday, Feb. 28 in Le Sueur County District Court with soliciting a child and communication of sexually explicit materials to a child, both felony charges. In January, a bus driver for the Tri-City United School District reported to district officials about a suspected relationship between Sauter and two female students, ages 13 and 15. Sauter at the time worked as a food service employee at TCU Montgomery Elementary and Middle School.

Superintendent Teri Preisler confirmed on March 1 that Sauter no longer works for the district.

According to the complaint, the 13-year-old girl told police she met Sauter on social media and did not immediately realize he worked at her school.

When confronted on the phone by one of the girl’s parents, Sauter allegedly said, “They looked like they needed a friend.”

The girl said she talked with Sauter via the Snap Chat app, an image messaging application.

The 15-year-old girl told police she met Sauter on December 27, 2017 when he drove to her residence and picked up her and the 13-year-old and took them to the Mall of America to shop. At one point in a store at the Mall of America, Sauter allegedly asked the 13-year-old to make out with him, which they did in a dressing room.

She later denied to authorities any other type of intimacy other than kissing Sauter.
