Floor hockey team takes first loss of season

The New Prague Trojan adapted floor hockey team took its first loss of the season last week, falling to South Washington County 19-5. They rebounded with a 14-3 win over Burnsville/ Farmington/Lakeville. Earlier, the team defeated Owatonna and Minneapolis Edison. The team, which includes players from New Prague, Tri-City United, Belle Plaine and Jordan, has a 7-1-1 record on the season with four games remaining in the regular season. New Prague was scheduled to face South Suburban at Bloomington Jefferson Wednesday, Feb. 14. On Thursday, Feb. 15, they will host Winona at 4:30 p.m.
The team travels to Owatonna Wednesday, Feb. 21.
Trojans 9, Huskies 4 “Owatonna is a very talented team and a team that beat us last year, but we played very well against their tough offensive attack,” Coach Shellie Kriha said. “Our defense really stepped up against a tough center player for them and helped each other out. Breanna Stark played very well and continues to amaze us with her play in goal.” Jake Schurman scored two goals from the defensive position. Alexis Parks had three goals, Garret Gagner had two goals and an assist and Seth Dorner and Dylan Raane each had a goal. Stark had 24 saves.
 
Trojans 19, Tommies 0 “Minneapolis is struggling this year and our kids came out of the gates ready to go and put this game away early,” Kriha said. “It was a great effort from our kids, we were able to get ahead early and really control the entire game. “ Scoring for the Trojans were Seth Dorner (5 goals, one assist-a hat trick in the first five minutes of the game), Dylan Raane (1 goal, 2 assists), Garret Gagner (3 goals), Evan Minar (3 goals, 1 assist), Lydia Hayle (3 goals, 1 assist), Eva Johnson (1 goal, 2 assists), Breanna Stark (3 goals, 1 assist).
 
Thunderbolts 19, Trojans 5 “South Washington has been destroying teams all year and put up nine goals in the first period on us,” Kriha said. “Our defense wasn't able to keep up with their speed in the beginning and it took us too long to get going.” Dylan Raane had two goals for New Prague, with Chase Smith, Jake Schurman and Seth Dorner getting one each.
 
Trojans 14, Blazing Cats 3 New Prague hosted Burnsville/ Farmington/Lakeville Monday, Feb. 12, and claimed a decisive 14-3 win. Earlier this year the teams had battled to a 6-6 tie. “This game really shows how much we have improved throughout the year and how far our kids have come along,” Kriha said. “Breanna Stark was amazing again in net with 28 saves, she has been great for us in net all year and continues to impress us with her performance.”
“Our kids knew this was a big game, Burnsville is right in the mix of the top teams in our section and this win should give us a lot of confidence as we finish up the regular season.”
Scoring for New Prague were Dylan Raaen (5 goals), Garret Gagner (5 goals, 1 assist), Chase Smith (2 goals, 1 assist), Seth Dorner (1 goal, 1 assist), Jake Schurman (1 goal, 1 assist) and Alexis Parks (1 assist).
