Elsie (Hartwig) Rotter, 99

Elsie (Hartwig) Rotter, 99, of Montgomery, passed away peacefully at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center in New Prague on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, Jan. 27, at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery, with visitation two hours prior beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be held in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in spring.
Elsie was born on March 3, 1918, to Emil and Josephine (Picka) Hartwig on the homestead farm in Lexington Township. She attended District 11 Country School, and was later employed as a live-in child care provider. 
 
On September 9, 1940, Elsie was united in marriage to Reynold Rotter at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Le Center. Following their marriage they moved to Montgomery. Along with raising three children, Elsie worked at various jobs including a poultry processing plant, Green Giant, and Munsingwear, where she worked for 16 years until retiring.
Elsie was active within her church. As a Ladies Aid Association member, she volunteered her time tying quilts, participating in fund raisers and serving church dinners. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, bunco, and visiting with friends. She loved canning, baking pies and cookies, and tending her beautiful flowers. She was caring, loving, and content and enjoyed her long life.
 
 
Elsie is survived by her daughter, Pat Wells of New Brighton, and son, Bob and Barb (Flicek) Rotter of Montgomery; son-in-law, DeWayne Tuma of Crystal; seven grandchildren and spouses, Michelle Tuma, Dennis and Susan (Tuma) Paulson, Kyle and Kristi Wells, Jason and Jenny (Rotter) Houn, Jeff and Eve (Vlasak) Rotter, John and Marisa (Schleis) Rotter, TJ and Jane (Rotter) Fischer; grandson-in-law, Mike Kramer; sixteen great-grandchildren, Alexa Paulson, Kellen and Liam Kramer, Taylor, Ethan, Jayden, Charlotte and Judge Houn, Maddox, Alex, and Hendrix Rotter, Jules and Max Rotter, and Cooper, Brody, and Drew Fischer.
Elsie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Reynold; daughter, Deanna Tuma; granddaughter, Kimberly (Wells) Kramer; sisters, Dorothy Ruehling, and Agnes Prendergast; brothers, George, and Benjamin Hartwig; son-in-law, Norm Wells.
