Council holds first reading of ordinance amendments

The New Prague City Council unanimously approved at its Monday, March 5, meeting, the first reading of ordinance amendments that regulate where assisted living facilities, clinics and healthcare facilities can be located in the city. The amendment is specifically for those places that would offer treatments for addictions.

The New Prague Planning Commission had recommended approval of the proposed amendments at its Wednesday, Feb. 28, meeting. (See separate story.)

Under the amendments health care facilities and clinics were removed from the list of conditional uses in all residential districts, except for the RL-70 district, which is where the Mayo Clinic Health System in New Prague is located. Assisted living facilities were removed from the list of conditional uses in the B-1 Central Business District. There will also be a list of performance standards for assisted living and healthcare facilities and clinics. These include following all Minnesota Department of Health program rules specific to detoxification programs and chemical dependency treatment programs, as applicable.
