Council hires a police chief

After eight months without a police chief, the city’s police department will have a new man in charge after the city council hired Louis Sager as its new police chief.

Sager comes to Montgomery with 27 years of experience in law enforcement all at the federal level serving with the bureau of prisons, US Marshall’s Service, and FBI office of Homeland Security. He also served one year as the Lac qui Parle County Sheriff. He has more than 15 year’s supervisory experience and a bachelor degree in Criminal Justice, a Master’s in Strategic Intelligence, and certificates in law enforcement leadership.

Sager was one of four candidates the city considered for the department’s top job. The council hired him with a 5-0 vote at its regular meeting on Monday, Nov. 20.

Councilor Mick McGuire said all of the candidates were good, and Sager got a “good grilling” by the city’s attorney Tim Warnemunde during the interview process.

“He (Sager) has a good history,” McGuire stated.
